How to Choose the Right Armchair for Maximum Comfort

Finding the right chair for your home can be a tricky business. Firstly, you have to find a chair that is comfortable to sit in, and not all chairs were created equal. Then, you have to find a chair that matches your living space, which is again, no easy task.

At Rise and Recline UK Ltd. we offer a wide range of styles and customisation options for your chair, from the design and shape of the chair, right through to the fabric, you can really make the chair your own. But with so much to choose from, where do you start? Well here are some of the things you should be considering when you buy your next armchair.

Space

First, consider the space your chair is going to be placed into, specifically, how much space is available. You want to be comfortable, but you also need to able to move around your new armchair once it’s in place. Make sure you measure the space available before investing in your chair.

Seat

The chair seat is crucial, as this supports the majority of your weight. There are a number of considerations when looking at the seat of the chair.

Padding – How firm is the padding? Will it support your weight for lengthy periods of time? If you sink in too far, you may find it difficult to get out of the chair. Conversely, if the padding is too hard, it may be uncomfortable to sit on, even for a short period of time.

Seat Height –When sitting, your feet should be flat on the floor in order to distribute your weight appropriately.

Depth –Ideally, you should be able to sit with your back flat against the back of the chair, with the bottom of the chair touching your calves, but without applying pressure.

Chair Back

The back of the chair is there to offer lumbar support so be sure you can comfortably sit flat against the back of the chair. Similarly, the height of the chair back is important. Taller users may not find their neck properly supported in chairs with too low a back.

Armrests

This is generally a matter of preference as to whether you like to have something to rest your arms on while sitting. However, armrests can also make it easier to get out of the chair, if you struggle with leg or back problems.

Fabric

It’s important that you choose the right fabric to match the rest of your decor and ideally you want to make that as close a match as you can. We offer a choice of thousands of fabric and patterns, so you can comfortably find the right match for your sitting room.
